Marie Stopes Tanzania (MST) is a marketing-focused, results-oriented social enterprise, which uses modern management and marketing techniques to provide family planning, reproductive and sexual healthcare and allied services. MST is a member of the Marie Stopes International (MSI) Global Partnership, which operates in over 45 countries worldwide. MST’s goal is to improve quality of life in Tanzania by dramatically improving access to and use of family planning and other reproductive health services.

Purpose:
• Perform tests, record and report results on specimens received in the laboratory in accordance with quality standards and regulations.
 • Perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. May work under the supervision of a medical officer/doctor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Promote delivery of quality Reproductive Health and general health services by performing routine and specialised tests and produce accurate and reliable laboratory results
• Supervise and train other technicians and laboratory assistants of MST centers as appropriate
• Undertake laboratory examination of samples and recording results
• Responsible for records keeping and production of laboratory related reports
• Facilitate timely requisition of laboratory equipment and reagents
• Maintain quality control test and general services in the department to ensure accurate results and adherence to laboratory Safety regulations
• Responsible for daily maintenance of lab equipment and maintain preventive logbook
• Identify and report all abnormal results to the relevant authorities
• Conduct special observations and research
• Asses and recommend requirements in terms of laboratory equipment, reagents etc for the new centers as per MOH and MSI standards
• Undertake any other assignments given from time to time by Supervisor or management for smooth running of the centre or program

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• A Laboratory Diploma or Laboratory Technician Certificate
• Current Registration with Laboratory Board
• 3 years working experience in a similar post

DESCRIPTION AND DETAILS
Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences is inviting applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to be considered for employment to fill the following vacant posts:-

HEALTH LABORATORY SCIENTIFIC OFFICER GRADE I – 2 POSTS.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION
Holder of Bachelor degree/Advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Advanced Diploma from a recognized Institution. Must have been acquired registration as a Graduate Health Laboratory Scientific Officer by competent relevant board/authority

Experience: Three (3) years working experience in similar post

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Organizes practical for undergraduate students.
• Participates in consultancy projects under close supervision of senior staff.
• Assists in consultancy, research and development in health field.
• Assists Academic staff in their research and development activities.
• Plans and supervises maintenance of laboratory/ workshop equipments and facilities.
• Prepares manuscripts, laboratory practical and other relevant needs.
• Instructs undergraduate and postgraduate students during practical.
• Develops and modifies student’s experiments and experimental rigns in consultation with academic members of staff.
• Supervises and orients Technicians and Artisans in their duties.
• Conducts on the job training for Technicians.
• Guides technicians in their daily activities
• Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by one’s reporting officer.
