An Agronomist and a Field Officer required

Organization
The World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) is a nonprofit, autonomous international agricultural research center with headquarters in Taiwan and regional offices around the globe. WorldVeg conducts research and development programs that contribute to alleviating poverty and malnutrition in the developing world through the increased production and consumption of nutritious and health-promoting vegetables. The World Vegetable Center's Eastern and Southern Africa regional office, located in Arusha, conducts vegetable research and training and provides information services for the benefit of its stakeholders in the horticultural sector in eastern and southern Africa.

As part of its project 'AFRICA RISING - Enhancing partnership among Africa Rising, NAFAKA and TUBORESHE CHAKULA programs for fast-tracking delivery and scaling of agricultural technologies in Tanzania, the Center is looking for a talented, diligent, ambitious and reliable Tanzanian citizen, who places importance on quality, team-work and diligence for the position of an Agronomist and Field officer under the nationally recruited staff (NRS) category. 

Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will report to the Agribusiness Specialist and be in charge of day-to-day project implementation activities including training of the AFRICA RISING - NAFAKA project. 
Responsibilities
  • Conduct technical training for farmers and extension officers focusing on vegetable production techniques and promotion of Post-harvest technologies 
  •  Participate in and support research trials conducted on-station and on-farm, collect research data and support the scaling of newly developed vegetable production and postharvest technologies
  • Collaborate with other NGOs and private sector partners to facilitate the dissemination of technologies developed and tested by WorldVeg
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses of on-station and on-farm trials
  • Support the project monitoring and evaluation activities by collecting yield data and economic data from training participants
  • Contribute to the project reporting and represent the project on different workshops and other events
  • Prepare field reports and success stories from the field
  • Publish research results in national and international journals
Skills, knowledge and qualifications
  • An Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Agronomy or equivalent from an Institution accredited by the Tanzania Commission of Universities
  • A minimum of three years of experience in agricultural development within an international environment, preferably in an international non-governmental organization.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili (spoken and written)
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with partners and colleagues in a multi-cultural selling
