The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking for suitably qualified and experienced Nationals to undertake the following tasks in the FAQ- Tanzania programme:
General Description of task(s) and objectives to be achieved:
Under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), and technical direction from the lead technical officer (LTO) at the Sub-regional office, the National Officer will be required to undertake the following duties:
- Provide technical leadership in implementation of FAO Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA); Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) interventions in Kagera region;
- Lead the development and implementation of strategies to strengthen producer organizations through farmer field schools and Junior farmer Field and Life Skills approaches;
- Strengthen LGAs in Kagera region in nutrition - sensitive agriculture practices and nutrition education campaigns to diversify diets;
- Support LGA partners to prepare project beneficiary identification and selection criteria and procedures;
- Strengthen capacities of Local Government Authorities in developing, implementing and effectively coordinating Resilience strategies and plans;
- Develop partnership and collaboration with Research and Development institutions in Kagera
- Region to enable accessibility of technologies and innovations to farmers, livestock keepers, fisher-folk and forest dependent communities;
- Prepare technical specification for the inputs to be purchased under the project in consultation with regional and district technical officers;
- Supervise the distribution of inputs and monitor implementation of field activities by the service providers contracted by FAO;
- Advocate and lobby for additional investment in the development of agriculture, food security, nutrition and sustainable management of natural resources in Kagera Region
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Academic Qualifications
Advanced university degree in areas of agriculture, food security, nutrition, agricultural economics, rural development or related field
Technical Competencies and Experience Requirements
- At least 5 years' experience in agriculture, food security, agricultural economics, rural development or related fields;
- At least 3 years direct involvement in promoting nutrition - sensitive agriculture
- Demonstration of ability to manage projects and resources efficiently and in a timely manner;
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to write proposals, documents and technical reports;
- Good facilitation skills and ability to conduct community level workshops/seminars;
- Fluent in English and Kiswahili
Duty station: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
